Konrad Lorenz Grammar School

The Konrad-Lorenz-Gymnasium in Gänserndorf, the largest building in the town, was modernised and extended to provide space for 1,000 pupils. A recycled concrete content of up to 29% was used for the remodelling and extension and just under 70% for the cleanliness layer.

The architects Franz&Sue developed a new spatial concept that combines the refurbished existing buildings to the north and south with a new, connecting component. The external appearance of the secondary school is characterised by a filigree wooden slatted façade. Inside, an open auditorium forms the centrepiece, complemented by bright and inviting areas. A graphic guidance system provides orientation, and generous open spaces offer a variety of opportunities for learning and relaxing.
