The parliament renovation was completed at the end of 2022. In addition to the glass dome above the National Council chamber, the new features of the parliament include the extended top floor, which houses a restaurant and the visitor center below the columned hall. In total, the floor space was extended by around 10,000 m2. To achieve this, the supporting structure had to be massively improved. Two thirds of the brick pillars below the historic portico had to be demolished. The load of the columned hall was supported by a steel structure and concrete. The steel staircases installed in 1910 were also replaced with new reinforced concrete staircases. The ceiling under the National Council Chamber and the Federal Assembly Hall was constructed as an in-situ concrete slab.
