barrier-free
Barriers in public spaces don't just make life difficult for people with disabilities. Barrier-free construction means taking measures and planning and designing buildings and public spaces in such a way that they can be used safely by all people without assistance and without any restrictions.
The basic principles are contained in the Austrian standards B1600 (barrier-free construction, planning principles) and B1601 (special buildings for disabled and elderly people, planning principles). In addition, the building regulations of the federal states as well as other state laws (e.g. elevator laws, event laws) contain mandatory provisions on compliance with accessibility.
Building for old age: The term "building for old age" refers to barrier-free living space that may also offer basic services in the areas of safety, general care and so-called low-threshold support services. This should at least make it easier to live independently in old age.
