In order to test the efficiency of thermal building component activation with concrete in practice, the consortium "Nachhaltige BAUTEILAktivierung" investigated the conditions in a simulation room for two years. In cooperation with the Vienna University of Technology, various measurement parameters such as temperature and energy flows were tested.

The simulation room (green building) consists of solid components made of reinforced concrete and is activated by water pipes in the components. The heat supply is provided by a solar system, the cooling by ground collectors. A total of 150 temperature sensors were installed for monitoring.

The results show that in five days without heating, the temperature dropped by only 3 degrees. Temperature peaks on particularly cold and hot days were smoothed out, and in summer the temperature remained below 25 degrees even when simulating an office situation (2 workstations, electronic devices with 150 watts). In addition, it could be proven that the computational kernel developed for the simulation can reproduce reality almost identically.

Connected to the concrete simulation room, 2 further simulation rooms in brick construction (yellow buildings) and component activation were implemented. ARGE ZIEGEL BAU ZUKUNFT tested the efficiency of simple brick rooms there, even if no additional insulation is applied to the exterior wall.
