With the completion of the extension in the north courtyard in May 2012, a new building was added to the ensemble of the Maximilianeum in Munich. This provides the Bavarian Parliament with additional office and meeting rooms. In addition to the highly insulated and practically airtight building envelope, the heating and primary energy requirements are significantly lower compared to buildings of current energy standards. The new building is connected to the district heating network of the city of Munich, which is largely fed by renewable energy sources. The sorption-supported air conditioning made possible by this is used to cool the rooms. In the building itself, water heating is provided by solar thermal energy. Thermal Activated concrete ceilings, with room-by-room controlled edge zone temperature control, covers the building's heating and cooling requirements.
