Each of the two apartment buildings in Elsbethen was built to passive house standards and has five apartments. These are heated with concrete energy storage, which ensures an extremely pleasant indoor climate and low heating costs. The special feature of the buildings is that the component activation takes place via the ceilings. In addition to the usual favorable properties of this environmentally friendly heating system, this has the advantage that the floor structure could be constructed as in an ordinary building. This has a positive effect on heat and impact sound insulation, which is particularly important in multi-party buildings. One brine-to-water heat pump per building provides comfortable temperatures and hot water.
The photovoltaic systems on the roofs generate almost all the energy needed for hot water, heating and ventilation over the course of the year. Tenants benefit from low operating costs, because even without solar power, the energy costs of the two buildings are extremely low. Each building - both have a total living area of around 680 square meters - comes to only around 950 euros per year with normal E consumption. This means that each apartment only costs around 190 euros per year for heating, hot water and ventilation. (Text source: LeubeNews 2/15)
