Smarthouse

For the new administration building of all Hochtief branches in the Munich area, a ceiling construction with component activation was designed for energy-saving reasons.

This was particularly suitable because the groundwater at a shallow depth could be used for cooling the offices with little effort. While the groundwater, which was available at an ideal temperature, could be fed into the pipe network via a heat exchanger for cooling, a heat pump had to be connected in between for heating the rooms.

The Ceiltec-A1 ceiling type is characterised by a sandwich cross-section consisting of a 10 cm thick lower shell, a 10 cm cavity filled with insulating elements and a 10 cm thick upper shell. Since the pipe registers are arranged in the lower prefabricated shell, a significantly higher performance is achieved in the heating and cooling load case compared to a classic component activation. The decoupling of the lower shell from the rest of the mass of the cross-section by the insulating elements in the interstitial space enables not only the higher performance, but also the faster reaction time when switching on the air conditioning. The higher performance and the fast response time are the special features of Innogration's Ceiltec ceiling type.

Thanks to the adaptation of the prefabricated panel width to the installation grid, it was even possible to arrange one register per axis. This then also provides individual control, which is the prerequisite for individual room control.

Compared to the sometimes severely limited properties of classic component activation, implementation with the prefabricated Ceiltec ceiling elements offers significant advantages:

  • higher performance values in the case of heating and cooling loads
  • faster reaction time
  • Individual room control thanks to pipe registers adapted to the axial grid

Another advantage lies in the pipe registers already installed in the factory, which are also leak-tested before the panels arrive at the construction site. In addition to the quality advantage provided by prefabrication, the rapid construction time is clearly noticeable thanks to simple assembly. With only three people, the individual slabs are brought directly from the transport vehicle into the final position on prepared rows of yokes. After approx. 15 to 20 minutes, a panel with an area of approx. 17m2 is assembled, including the air conditioning built into the panel.

Integrated absorbers

In this ceiling, strip-shaped absorbers were also provided to reduce the sound in the rooms. These are strip absorbers that are retrofitted into the small-format recesses arranged in a regular grid. Since the absorber strips are made of metal, the cooling and heating capacity of the ceiling is not restricted in any way.

For the first time ever in thermoactive ceiling elements, the problem of acoustics is effectively solved without reducing the ceiling's climatic performance. Until now, it has been an unsolved task to get a handle on the acoustics of sound-reflecting surfaces such as a thermoactive ceiling without reducing the cooling or heating capacity.
