ERDEN factory hall
The ERDEN factory building, an innovative hybrid construction made of rammed earth walls and cross-laminated timber (CLT), was built in Schlins, Vorarlberg. The hall comprises a production area for the prefabrication of rammed earth walls and an office wing. The solid south-facing wall made of rammed earth provides excellent sound insulation and enables the company to operate close to residential areas. In addition to traditional clay and timber construction techniques, the hall also utilises solar energy and passive ventilation. The project impressively demonstrates that sustainable construction with natural materials on an industrial scale is possible and aesthetically pleasing.
