structural engineering, building physics, building services, electrical engineering:
Two generous roof gardens on the first and fifth floors compensate for the relatively small open spaces at ground level due to the size of the building site. Outdoor staircases create vertical circulation opportunities and important functional connections between the individual open spaces on and around the building. The perimeter balcony slabs structure the building horizontally and are also drawn upon for a sustainable energy concept. The building configuration allows the structure to have a "green vertical" envelope. Partly ground-based, partly via plant troughs in the upper floors, climbing plants grow upwards on climbing aids. For the projecting terrace areas, the vertical greening provides valuable shading, especially in summer, which protects against overheating in summer, particularly on the south façade. In addition, the facade greening also assumes functions as a dust and noise filter, improves the microclimate, contributes to the formation of space, and lends the educational campus an identity-forming characteristic in what is, according to the urban development model, a "green quarter".
The arrangement of the individual educational areas, in conjunction with the access zones, creates spatial synergies that promote encounters across grades and classes and thus active togetherness and learning from one another. The rooms and their furnishings are intended to encourage the children to actively engage with the space and, stimulated by the possibility of diverse constellations and usage scenarios, to design an appropriate environment for all-day living, learning and playing, also on their own initiative, depending on the situation and needs.
