Türkenwirt building BOKU
The new building responds to its surroundings in terms of scale. In terms of building law, the above-ground structure (54 % BRI) is not utilized to the maximum, but many uses are arranged below ground (46 %). An incised patio creates lighted areas on the first basement level. By dispensing with a staggered floor, the possibility of a later extension is created.

Despite the two different tract depths and two different building heights, the building appears as one structure due to the alignments. The vertical wooden slats and the horizontal bands change the appearance of the building from permeable to sculptural-compact, depending on the angle of view.
This building is a beacon project for sustainable construction and has been awarded the OEGNI Platinum. It contains a lecture hall for 400 people, the mineral collection with an exercise room for 60 people, the Türkenwirt restaurant, a refectory with 400 meals, the farm store, three institutes and the premises of the Austrian Student Union.
