Bundesschule Aspern

The architects have implemented a new type of spatial and functional program, whitch was desired by the Ministry of Education and the BIG, in a way that has little to do with familiar images of school. The numerous visual and pathway connections make the community tangible, and access to the outdoors is guaranteed at all times, even on the upper floors. It is not the teachers who come to the classes, but the other way around, the students wander to the individual departments for their lessons. In front of the school, a varied terraced urban wilderness was created on several levels.

The building is cooled without significant energy costs by means of spring water and consistent thermal activated bulding components, which ensures a pleasant indoor climate even on midsummer days.
