With the climbing hall felsenfest, one of the largest and most modern climbing halls in Austria opened in 2012. On 1,700 m² of climbing space, countless climbing routes and bouldering opportunities in all degrees of difficulty delight beginners and advanced climbers.

The climbing hall is heated exclusively by the sun to cover the total annual heat demand of 46,800 kWh. The concrete heat accumulator ensures uniform radiant heat and a balanced temperature level. The difficult general conditions with a heat transfer area of only 350 m² at a room height of 18.3 m could be compensated by the statically necessary floor slab thickness of 52 cm. The 130 m² solar collector with an inclination of 65° ensures the hot water supply of 20 shower facilities of the sports clubs in the adjacent building over a period of eight months. Hot water is supplied from the 5,000-liter buffer tank via a hygienic fresh water module. The electricity costs for operating the solar, buffer charging and heating circulation pumps are almost negligible, with a total energy requirement of around 1,000 kWh amounting to approximately 160 euros per year.
